Ephemera Paducah proudly supports our nation’s deployed armed forces and their families by participating in Operation Write Home. On April 19, Kristin Williams and Chris Janne will host a card making event from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Started by Sandy Allknock in 2007, thousands of cardmakers throughout the United States (and some abroad) make hand crafted greeting cards to send to deployed troops so they can send cards back home to their loved ones. There are several ways our talented local cardmakers and artists can join in and show their support.
Come by Ephemera Paducah on April 19 and make cards in the shop. Your creativity will have free reign, as no kit will be provided. Use your own artistic talents. You will have the use of the studio’s tools and supplies, but feel free to bring your own papers, glues, embellishments, etc. A donation of a pack of 4.25”x 5.5” sized cards will be most appreciated.
Can’t make it on that day or you prefer working in your own studio/craft room, you can participate by making cards in advance and dropping them off at Ephemera Paducah (corner of Madison and 9th Street) between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday or Friday or between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. If you choose this option, it is very important that you visit the Operation Write Home website to review the guidelines. Cards cannot be sent that are not the correct size, would require extra postage for troops to send home, have loose glitter (would make troops visible to night vision goggles if it got on their clothes,) have handwritten sentiments, etc.
Would love to contribute but not confident of your cardmaking skills? Come by on the 19th and let Kristin or Chris help you make an Any Hero card. In these cards you can write a note of appreciation for our nation’s heroes. Think this is a great project but, quite frankly, you despise crafting? No worries, we will gladly accept a tax deductible contribution that will help with the OWH expenses in mailing the cards to contacts overseas. Checks only for tax free donations.
